House System

The school divides into four houses—Austen, de Valois, Seacole, and Somerville—where each is led by a house head who works alongside two LVI captains. Beyond managing six weekend activities throughout the year, these houses give students a chance to compete in inter-house events that span sports, creative projects, and academic challenges, including tennis, poetry performances, music, and drama competitions. Each house maintains its own emblem and special event shirt.

Houses at Heathfield School

Every house takes its name from someone remarkable. Austen honors Jane Austen, whose six major novels explored eighteenth-century British society, while de Valois celebrates Dame Ninette de Valois, a distinguished ballerina and choreographer. Seacole commemorates Mary Jane Seacole, a British-Jamaican businesswoman and nurse, and Somerville pays tribute to Mary Somerville, the Scottish writer and scientist.

School Schedule

Days begin at 8:10 with tutor time before morning chapel service, then lessons run from 8:40 until 4 PM with breaks for snacks and lunch woven in. After classes wrap up, students can join various evening activities before gathering for dinner at 6:30 PM. Weekends and half-term periods follow modified schedules that let everyone finish earlier.

Uniform at Heathfield School

Appearance standards here call for a blazer and professional presentation throughout the day. Hair needs to stay neat and naturally colored, tied back if it falls past the shoulders, while jewelry stays limited and accessories remain understated. Makeup isn’t allowed during school hours.
